A Space for Young Startups at Bremen Startup Summit 2023

On 22. June, 2023, the Startup Summit Bremen event served as a dynamic meeting place for businesses, companies and investors to discover emerging young startups and potential new team members. The event was hosted and co-organized by Bremen Startups and Sparkasse Bremen, with over 200 participants registered to attend. The ESA BIC Northern Germany participated in support with a stand to welcome entrepreneurs and startups and introduce them to the possibilities of space technology within their business ideas. The presence of the ESA BIC Northern Germany highlighted the German federal state of Bremen as a hub for space-related entrepreneurship.

The stage programme, along with 50 contact stations, including their specific needs, were made available. Attendees could explore the  line up of the stage programme, identify startups and businesses seeking employees, connect with investors, pilot-project partners and more.

The event fostered a spirit of entrepreneurship, creating an atmosphere for collaboration that could shape the future in various industries.

The highlight of the event was the stage time in the Campus Space event room, where the Bremen Startup Award 2023 and the Elevator Pitch Contest took place. In particular, the pitch contest provided a valuable opportunity for ambitious startups to present their ideas to a panel of seasoned investors and industry experts. The participants applied their skills to captivate the audience in the hopes of securing potential funding and support. The contest added an element of excitement and showcased the entrepreneurial talent present at the event.

The winners of the Bremen Startup Award 2023 were WasteAnt. Heatrix were the winners for this year’s special sustainability award. ReMedi Health took home the prize for the Elevator Pitch contest.

As Bremen continues to foster its reputation as an innovation hub, events like the Startup Summit Bremen will undoubtedly play a role in shaping the future of entrepreneurship and cutting-edge initiatives.

About ESA BIC Northern Germany

The Incubation Centre of the European Space Agency in Northern Germany (ESA BIC Northern Germany) is headquartered jointly with the Bremen aeronautics and space industries association AviaSpace Bremen at the BITZ, the largest innovation and technology centre for high-tech companies and startups in Bremen. The ESA BIC Northern Germany brings new startup opportunities to the region and thus strengthens the aeronautics and space sector in the German federal state of Bremen. AviaSpace Bremen supports the incubatees with its network, public relations work and targeted coaching not only during the incubation period, but also afterwards as alumni. Starthaus is the central point of contact in the Bremen startup ecosystem and supports the startups on all issues relating to business development and financing. The ESA BIC Northern Germany is managed by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO), an international networking and branding company for the European space programmes that also manages ESA BIC Bavaria with three locations in southern Germany.

Since 2021, ESA BIC Northern Germany has also been offering its service to space-related startups in Schleswig-Holstein. The Technikzentrum Lübeck with GATEWAY49, AviaSpace Bremen and AZO jointly operate this extension of ESA BIC Northern Germany. There are also plans to extend ESA BIC Northern Germany to the northern German federal states of Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin-Brandenburg.
