28.03.2025From March 16 to 21, 2025, a delegation from Bremen, led by Kristina Vogt, Senator for Economy, Ports, and Transformation, traveled to Silicon Valley to explore the latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) within the logistics sector. The group, consisting of 18 representatives from Bremen-based companies and institutes, visited technology giants—such as ServiceNow, Google, and Uber Freight—as well as innovative start-ups like Flexport, Starship Technologies, and BackOps.AI. The trip was organized by the Northern Germany Innovation Office (NGIO) and WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH.
Kristina Vogt, Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation, stated: “The Bremen logistics sector faces enormous competitive pressure. Geopolitical tensions, trade conflicts, and new tariffs are making business more difficult. At the same time, artificial intelligence offers enormous opportunities to make supply chains more efficient, sustainable, and resilient. Therefore, it is crucial to identify the right technologies and partners at an early stage. With this trip, we aim to identify innovations, gain insights for Bremen, and engage with companies that are shaping the logistics industry today. Developments in AI and robotics are progressing rapidly, and we must actively use them to keep Bremen’s logistics sector competitive,”
The delegation’s trip focused on various AI applications in logistics, including optimizing last-mile logistics, intelligent route planning and optimization, and AI-driven robotics systems in warehouse logistics. Additionally, sustainable international supply chains and the integration of digital tools in port and shipping operations were key topics. Along with company visits, the program included a briefing by German Consul General Oliver Schramm and a visit to the Port of Oakland, one of the leading seaports on the U.S. West Coast. The trip aimed to strengthen technology transfer and expand networks between northern Germany and the most innovative regions in the U.S.
