Meet the Irish Delegation
06.11.2025Scotland’s Space Sector – Europe’s Emerging End-to-End Ecosystem
Scotland is rapidly positioning itself as a leading European hub for the New Space economy, offering full-spectrum capabilities across the entire end-to-end value chain — from satellite manufacturing, spaceports, launch vehicles, ground segment, hardware to downstream data applications and services.
Scotland’s space sector is one of the fastest growing in Europe, with the city of Glasgow producing more small satellites than anywhere outside the USA – with companies like Spire Global and AAC Clyde Space having established manufacturing facilities there.
This is complemented by expertise from more than 170 Scottish data science companies, all active in data gathering, analysis and earth observation, supporting sectors such as agriculture, climate monitoring, maritime, and urban planning. Edinburgh – as the data driven capital of Europe – hosts the largest centre for informatics in the UK, and Scotland is home to numerous leading research institutions active in this thriving sector.
Launch will provide the final piece of Scotland’s end-to-end supply chain capability.
Most of the planned spaceports in UK are located in Scotland of which SaxaVord in Shetland Islands is UK’s first fully licensed spaceport and – with Sutherland in the Highlands – set to support vertical orbital launches. Spaceport 1 at Scolpaig Farm on North Uist is being developed as the UK’s first dedicated commercial suborbital launch site. Among others, Rocket Factory Augsburg and HyImpulse, as well as Orbex and Skyrora, are planning to launch from Scottish soil next year.
Each year Scotland has a strong presence at Space Expo Europe and this year there will be approx. 40 companies and organisations from Scotland coming to Bremen with many of those exhibiting at their own stands.
