Covid-19 and the crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have shown us the importance of European sovereignty in materials and technology. Access to a secure, diversified, affordable and sustainable supply of critical raw materials and components is essential for the aeronautics and space industry. But not only materials are of importance, there is a growing awareness that technical sovereignty in key areas is critical for European competitiveness.

Europe aims to mitigate these risks, which arise from one-sided structural dependence in materials and technologies for industry, in order to improve its economic resilience.
