FAST-CAST – Fast and high resolution sea-ice drift forecasts

The FAST-CAST project performs research on how PRIIMA sea-ice drift forecasts can be computed faster and globally. The ultimate goal beyond the project is to implement PRIIMA in ice information Apps such as IcySea.

Within the project Drift+Noise investigates the potential of short term wind forecasts provided by the global ICON weather model of the German Weather Service (DWD) to estimate sea-ice drift forecasts in Antarctica.

The project partner Steinbeis Research Center Optimization, Control and Adjustment Control applies innovative concepts such as replacement of source code by trained neural networks to assess the speedup potential of the PRIIMA calculations.
